Is The 'Pause Life a medical practice?
No. The 'Pause Life is an education and wellness company. Its website, social channels, podcast, and customer channels do not provide individualized medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Women should discuss their individual symptoms, medical history, medications, and treatment options with a qualified healthcare practitioner.
What is The 'Pause Wellness?
The 'Pause Wellness is a separate in-person women's health clinic in Galveston, Texas, founded by Dr. Haver in 2021 in response to demand for individualized midlife and menopause care. The clinic's practitioners provide comprehensive consultations based on the tenets and protocols that have been established by Dr Haver. The consultations include health history, lifestyle, symptoms, and personal wellness goals, including discussion of hormone therapy and other pharmaceutical treatments when indicated. Visits may also include body-composition assessment and appropriate laboratory testing.
The ‘Pause Wellness clinic is separate from The 'Pause Life's education and consumer wellness business. Current appointment availability, clinician information, and clinic policies are available directly from The 'Pause Wellness. https://thepausewellness.com/
Menopause Care & Current Positions
Collapsible content
What is The ‘Pause Wellness’s approach to menopause care?
Dr. Haver describes menopause care as a toolkit, not a single treatment. That toolkit can include individualized recommendations for optimal nutrition, exercise, including strength and resistance training, sleep optimization, stress management, cardiovascular and metabolic health, sexual health interventions, appropriate supplementation, and - when appropriate for the individual - menopausal hormone therapy.
Her broader message is that women should have access to current evidence, understand their choices, and participate actively in decisions about their health.
What is the difference between perimenopause and menopause?
Perimenopause is the reproductive transition leading up to menopause. Hormone levels can fluctuate significantly during this period, and symptoms may begin years before menstrual periods stop. Menopause is one day and is reached after 12 consecutive months without a menstrual period when there is no other physiological or pathological cause. Everything after that day is post-menopause.
Dr. Haver's recent work has focused heavily on perimenopause because women can experience meaningful symptoms well before they meet the technical definition of menopause. Her message is that women should not have to wait until their periods stop to have those symptoms taken seriously.
Why does the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) still come up in conversations about menopause care?
The Women's Health Initiative fundamentally changed menopause care after findings from part of the study were released in 2002. The resulting headlines created widespread fear around menopausal hormone therapy, and hormone use dropped dramatically.
Dr. Haver frequently discusses the WHI because age at initiation, time since menopause, formulation, route of administration, and individual health history all matter when evaluating benefits and risks. Her position is that women deserve a discussion based on the current body of evidence rather than a blanket conclusion drawn from headlines more than two decades old.
Does The ‘Pause Wellness believe hormone therapy is safe for everyone?
No. The ‘Pause Wellness does not advocate hormone therapy for every woman. They advocate for women having an informed, individualized discussion about it rather than being automatically denied the option because of outdated assumptions or fear.
Whether menopausal hormone therapy is appropriate depends on factors including age, time since menopause, symptoms, medical and family history, individual risk factors, and the type, dose, and route of therapy being considered. There are women for whom systemic hormone therapy may not be appropriate, as well as women who choose not to use it.
Does The ‘Pause Wellness recommend compounded hormones or hormone pellets?
The ‘Pause Wellness generally emphasizes FDA-approved hormone therapy options when an appropriate approved option exists. Dr. Haver has discussed limited situations in which compounded medications may have a role, including the absence of an FDA-approved testosterone product specifically formulated for women in the United States.
She has publicly urged caution around hormone pellets because dosing cannot easily be adjusted once a pellet has been inserted and hormone levels may exceed physiologic ranges. Her broader position is that women should understand the evidence, risks, alternatives, and financial interests involved before choosing a treatment.
What is The ‘Pause Wellness’s position on testosterone for women?
We believe testosterone deserves an evidence-based and nuanced discussion in women's health. Dr. Haver has spoken about the evidence supporting testosterone therapy for appropriately selected women with hypoactive sexual desire disorder and the importance of appropriate dosing and monitoring.
There is currently no FDA-approved testosterone formulation specifically indicated for women in the United States. Testosterone is prescription medical care and should be individualized with a qualified healthcare practitioner.
What is The ‘Pause Wellness’s position on GLP-1 medications?
We view obesity and metabolic dysfunction as medical issues rather than failures of willpower, and we support evidence-based use of GLP-1 medications for appropriate patients under medical supervision.
Our public education emphasizes that these medications are one part of comprehensive metabolic care, not a replacement for nutrition, movement, strength training, sleep, or medical oversight. A particular focus is preserving muscle and bone during weight loss through adequate protein intake and resistance training.
GLP-1 medications are prescription drugs and are not prescribed or sold by The 'Pause Life. The ‘Pause Wellness clinic only prescribes FDA approved GLP-1 medications.
Supplements, Commerce & the ‘Menopause Gold Rush’
Collapsible content
Do supplements treat menopause?
No. The ‘Pause Life distinguishes between supplementing nutritional needs and treating menopause itself. Our approach starts with nutrition, exercise, sleep, stress management, and appropriate medical care. Supplements may help fill particular nutritional gaps or support specific health goals, but they are not a substitute for medical care or a treatment for menopause itself.
Why does The ‘Pause Life sell supplements?
The 'Pause Life developed its supplement line from Dr. Haver's food-first approach to nutrition. She recommends getting vitamins, minerals, fiber, protein, and other nutrients from whole foods whenever possible. But even with a healthy diet, it can be difficult to consistently meet every nutritional need, and individual needs may also change with age, lifestyle, health conditions, or identified nutritional deficiencies.
When food alone doesn't get someone all the way there, we believe targeted supplementation can help bridge the gap between what a person gets through their diet and what they need. That philosophy—and the variation seen in supplement formulation, quality, dosing, and testing—led to the development of The 'Pause Life supplements. The company's supplement philosophy says Dr. Haver relies on whole foods first and she created supplements after identifying gaps in her own nutrition and struggling to find products that met her standards.
Dr. Haver is transparent that she founded and has a financial interest in The 'Pause Life. Purchasing a The 'Pause Life product is not required to follow her nutritional, exercise, or menopause-health recommendations, and substantial educational content and resources are available without purchase.
The company's position is food and education first,, and supplementation when needed: supplements are designed to fill nutritional gaps, not replace a healthy diet and not to serve as the answer to menopause. Start with food → identify what's missing → supplement the gap when appropriate.
Are The 'Pause Life supplements FDA approved?
No. Dietary supplements are not FDA-approved like prescription drugs. The 'Pause Life does not describe its supplements as FDA approved.
Instead, The 'Pause Nutrition® focuses on quality, testing, and independent verification throughout the product lifecycle. Our quality program is built around four checkpoints:
1. Qualified manufacturers and cGMP compliance - Quality starts with manufacturing. We work with qualified manufacturers that follow FDA current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) requirements designed to help ensure the identity, strength, quality, purity, and composition of dietary supplements.
2. Independent third-party testing of every lot - Every lot of The 'Pause Nutrition® products undergoes testing by independent third-party laboratories. Depending on the product and applicable specifications, testing includes:
- Identity, purity, and potency
- Microbiological testing
- Heavy metals and other specified contaminants
By third-party testing, we mean testing performed by an independent laboratory that is not the manufacturer, distributor, fulfillment provider, or The 'Pause Life.
3. Stability testing - We conduct stability testing to support product shelf life and expiration dating and to evaluate whether products continue to meet established specifications over time.
4. Independent certification and verification - In addition to our own quality program, we pursue independent third-party certification. We are working toward NSF certification across the product line. Currently, our Creatine, Omega + Vitamin D, Skin & Bone, Sleep, and Turmeric products are NSF certified, with additional products in process.
NSF certification provides independent verification against established standards for dietary supplements. Products that have completed NSF Contents Certified certification can be found in the NSF Certified Products & Systems directory.
We also participate in SuppCo's independent supplement transparency and trust platform, which gives consumers additional information about product testing, certifications, and quality practices.
Our standard is straightforward: what's on the label should be what's in the product, at the stated amount, and we use independent testing and verification to hold ourselves accountable to that standard.
Dietary supplements are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent disease and should not be represented as treatments for menopause.
Does Dr. Haver have a financial interest in products she discusses?
Yes. Dr. Haver founded The ’Pause Life and has a financial interest in its products. She is transparent about that relationship.
Dr. Haver’s primary focus is education, advocacy, and her foundation’s work to advance women’s health. Her education covers many topics beyond the products The ’Pause Life sells, including nutrition, exercise, hormone therapy, and sexual and cardiovascular health.
An experienced team manages the company’s day-to-day operations and follows the quality and safety protocols established to protect consumers. As with any health product, consumers should consider their individual needs and consult their healthcare professional when appropriate.
Is menopause becoming a 'gold rush'? How does Dr. Haver respond to concerns about commercialization?
Dr. Haver acknowledges that menopause has become a rapidly growing healthcare and consumer category and that increased investment brings a responsibility for rigor, transparency, evidence, and accountability. She rejects, however, the idea that the growth of the field itself is evidence of opportunism.
Her view is that the surge in attention reflects a long-overdue correction after decades in which menopause research, clinician education, treatment options, and public understanding were underdeveloped. More investment can produce better research, better care, more clinician education, and more choices for women - but commercial growth should never lower the standard of evidence or obscure financial interests.
“This is not a 'gold rush.' It is a correction. It is what happens when an area of medicine long neglected begins to receive the attention and rigor it deserves.”
The 'Pause Life believes companies and clinicians operating in this space should be held to a high standard: disclose financial interests, distinguish evidence from emerging science or opinion, avoid overstating what products can do, and update claims as the evidence evolves.
Dr. Haver has also publicly acknowledged criticism of her own commercial work. The company's position is not that scrutiny is unwelcome; it is that scrutiny should be applied alongside recognition of the longstanding gaps that created the demand for better menopause care in the first place.
Does Dr. Haver have affiliate or commercial relationships with brands she recommends?
Sometimes. Dr. Haver and The 'Pause Life work with select brands through affiliate, sponsorship, advertising, and other commercial relationships. When an affiliate relationship exists, The 'Pause Life may receive compensation or a commission if someone purchases through a link or uses a promotional code.
At other times, Dr. Haver shares products, services, books, experts, or resources simply because she uses them, likes them, or believes they may be useful to her community with no financial relationship at all.
We believe those relationships should be transparent and should not be confused with independent medical advice.
Many of the products and services Dr. Haver and The 'Pause Life team use and recommend can be found on our 'Pause Favorites page. The page includes products the team genuinely uses or recommends across categories including nutrition, fitness, skincare, sleep, apparel, sexual wellness, technology, and telemedicine, and clearly identifies that affiliate links may generate a commission for The 'Pause Life.
A commercial relationship does not mean a product is necessary for menopause care, nor does it replace individualized medical advice.
What is The 'Pause Life's relationship with HelloFresh?
The 'Pause Life has worked with HelloFresh as a commercial partner. As with other sponsorships and affiliate relationships, any paid or compensated relationship should be disclosed in the content where the partnership appears.
Dr. Haver's broader nutritional philosophy remains food first and is not dependent on the purchase or use of any particular meal service or commercial product.
What was Dr. Haver and The 'Pause Life's relationship with Midi Health?
Dr. Haver previously collaborated with Midi Health through its AgeWell initiative. During that relationship, The 'Pause Life and Midi also explored a product concept together and ultimately agreed it was not the right fit. The AgeWell collaboration concluded shortly thereafter.
The 'Pause Life and Dr. Haver have great respect for Midi's team and their commitment to expanding women's access to healthcare, and we wish them well.
How does The 'Pause Life decide what health information to publish?
The 'Pause Life's health education is grounded in published research, clinical guidelines, and expert input. The company reviews and updates content as evidence and recommendations evolve.
Science is not static, and areas of women's health - particularly menopause - continue to develop quickly. Where evidence is incomplete or emerging, the goal is to distinguish that uncertainty from areas where evidence is well established. Educational information from The 'Pause Life is not individualized medical advice.
Does Dr. Haver always agree with current menopause guidelines?
Not necessarily. Dr. Haver frequently teaches from established evidence and clinical guidelines, but she also discusses emerging research and areas where she believes clinical practice or guidelines have not yet caught up with newer evidence.
When a recommendation represents Dr. Haver's interpretation or clinical perspective rather than established consensus, that distinction should be clear. Her advocacy has centered on improving menopause research, clinician education, and women's access to evidence-based care.
